If you are a business professional, than you use your iPhone for more than simply keeping in touch with your friends and family, in many cases your iPhone is your link to the business world. Whether you are keeping track of your stocks, checking your e-mail or conducting conference calls while on your way to a business meeting, your iPhone is literally your key to keeping connected with your professional life. However, if you are like most business professionals, than you travel the globe in order to keep your business active and profitable. There are many concerns that people have with cell phones are whether or not you will be able to use your phone when you are in a different country, especially if you are visiting for an extended period of time.

Like most cell phones, the iPhone works with a particular cell phone carrier, and in this case you have your service through AT&T/Cingular. Many business professionals want the security in knowing that their cell phone service will not be disrupted simply because they travel from country to country. Since the iPhone is serviced by AT&T/Cingular, you will not have to worry about loosing service, or features, because the iPhone uses the GSM system. GSM is an acronym that stands for Global System for Mobile communication, thus allowing you to use your cell phone in many different countries. Actually, there are over one hundred countries around the world that use GSM, thus allowing you to keep using your iPhone without any hindrance to cell service.

Many business travelers go to Europe and Asia, and since their iPhone uses GSM, they are able to have excellent service throughout both of these locations. However, there are some precautions that you will want to take before you leave the country with your iPhone. If you have ever traveled throughout the world and used your cell phone, you were probably surprised by extremely high charges for phone and data use.

This is because your number is an American telephone number, thus every call you make within another country is looked upon by your carrier as an international call. If you are overseas for quite some time, than it is easy to accumulate several hundred dollars worth of fees and roaming charges, this is why you will
want to alter you calling plan if you travel overseas frequently.

AT&T/Cingular has really great international calling plans that are very cost effective. Thus you are able to still travel throughout the world without having to worry about roaming and international call fees. Also, if you use data on your iPhone, which most of you do, you will want to make sure that you have an international data plan as well. The worst homecoming surprise you can get is opening your cell phone bill only to find several hundred dollars worth of extra charges and fees. However, if you plan ahead and make sure that you obtain a new service plan that includes international cell phone use, you will not have to worry about extremely high charges.

If you haven’t heard, Gmail is now becoming the number one e-mail client in the world. The reason for this is simple, they provide their account holders with constantly increasing supply of storage space, and the e-mail interface is extremely simple and easy to use. The Google e-mail service is just like the Google search engine, there aren’t ads placed everywhere on your page, and you are able to find the information (or e-mails) that you want in a moments notice. Thus, if you are constantly on the go, you want to be able to check your Gmail account wherever you are.

If you have an Apple iPhone, than you are probably wondering how you can integrate your Gmail account within the iPhone to make checking your e-mail as simple as glancing at your phone.

Google has just recently announced that you are able to add a protocol to your iPhone strictly for Gmail accounts. This IMAP application allows Gmail account holders to check their e-mail on any offline e-mail readers, which is perfect for individuals who have an iPhone, and even for those that don’t. It is extremely simple to install and run the IMAP application on your iPhone, thus allowing you to seamlessly integrate your iPhone to your Gmail account. The first step to beginning this process is to go to your Gmail account and enable IMAP. You can do this by logging into your Gmail account and then going to Settings. After that click on Forwarding and POP/IMAP, then click “Enable IMAP.”

After you have done the above, grab your iPhone and tap Settings, then tap Mail. After you have done so, make sure that you click Add Account. After you have done so, do not click the Gmail option, because this has not been updated to the newest IMAP settings. Instead, click Other. Once you have done so, you will then begin to enter you information. You will start off by entering your Name, and then you will put the Host Name, which is: imap.gmail.com after you have done this enter your full Gmail account address, which includes the @gmail.com at the end of your username.

You will then move to the Outgoing Mail Server, or SMTP. Under the Host Name, you will want to put: smtp.gmail.com then save all of your changes. You have now just set up your IMAP Gmail account, thus allowing you to view all of your Gmail messages, both old and new.

Being able to check your e-mail wherever you are is extremely important in our fast paced society. Whether you are a business professional who needs constant access to their e-mail account, or if you simply want to be able to check your e-mail while taking a break in school, you will be able to do so when you activate your IMAP service on your iPhone. Communication is key in our world, and if you are unable to reply to e-mail messages quickly, than you may suffer the consequence, either professionally or socially. With the iPhone, you are able to stay connected to the world around you, no matter where you are.

The Internet is a powerful tool that provides everyone online a way to be connected to each other, gather a lot of information and enjoy convenient services like online shopping and banking. However, many of us Internet users are at constant risk of adware and spyware downloads that make us extremely vulnerable to malicious acts.

We often unknowingly fall prey to adware and spyware downloads as we innocently use the Internet. These adware and spyware downloads can come bundled with some freeware programs we use and sometimes, simply browsing a site puts us at risk. The business of being infected with unwanted adware and spyware downloads can be very serious. Some adware and spyware or malware proliferate the Web to infect our computer systems which gives us no control over unsolicited pop ups as part of targeted market efforts.

On extreme criminal cases however, spyware called malware, is used to take note of keystrokes, scan our computer’s hard drive and steal important passwords and financial information. The information gathered covertly is used for identity theft, which can cause us major headache and at least thousands of dollars to clear our names.

These adware and spyware are unknowingly infect our computers and most of the time, we don’t even know that they there. However, you can start becoming suspicious of adware and spyware downloaded into your system when you begin to have uncontrolled pop-ups from unsolicited sources. Sometimes, even without the telltale pop up ads you may notice a suspicious slow down in your computer’s processing without any apparent reason. Your system slows down because these adware and spyware parasitically use up your system’s resources to be able to perform their functions.

The only way you can be sure if your computer system is infected with adware and spyware downloads is by installing an anti spyware program that will detect and flush out the unwanted programs. The proper anti spyware can also prevent future adware and spyware downloads. You need to choose an anti spyware program that does both.

Be wary of downloading anti spyware on the Net because some spyware are disguised and marketed as a free anti spyware.

One more thing you can do to protect yourself from unwittingly downloading adware and spyware programs is to read the fine print. When installing a new program into your computer, you are asked to tick off an option of whether you agree or disagree with the programs end user license agreement (EULA). Do yourself a favor and read what is written in the agreement before agreeing to proceed in the installation. Many shareware and freeware programs come bundled with spyware and adware programs and in some cases you can learn about them by reading the agreement carefully.

Because adware and spyware come bundled with your download, these programs will not run independently of the spyware it comes with. This means that if you have a good anti-spyware system installed in your computer, you won’t be able to install the infected program.

Consequently, if an existing program infected with spyware is in your system, your anti spyware system will attempt to remove the infection. Since most spyware are closely bundled into certain programs, the removal of the spyware may cause the legitimate program it comes with to stop functioning as well.

Adware, spyware and computer virus share some similarities, one of which is that all three are major nuisances for computer users. Let’s differentiate the three.

Spyware is software that does not intentionally harm your computer. What they do is that they create pathways wherein someone else aside from the computer owner can communicate with the computer. Normally spywares record the various types of web sites you visit which are later used by web advertisers to allow them to send you unwanted emails and pop-ups.

This is why spyware are usually frowned upon and greatly avoided. They are more intrusive than adware. Spyware have their own separate executable programs which allow them to record your keystrokes, scan files on your hard disks and look at other applications that you use including but not limited to chat programs, cookies and Web browser settings.

The spyware then will send the information that it had gathered to the spyware author. The agent will then use this information for advertising and marketing purposes. They even sell the information to advertisers and other parties.

Adware, on the other hand, are more legitimate form of freeware. Similar to spyware, adwares are advertising materials which are packaged into a software or program and are installed automatically once that particular program or software is added into the computer system. Some forms of adware, on the other hand, download advertising contents as a particular application is being utilized. It is quite unfortunate that most of the adware programs take the form of spywares that is they track and report user information to program authors.

Some signs of spyware infections include pop-up ads that seem to be not related to the site you are viewing. More often than not, spyware pop-ups are advertisements about adult contents. Also if you notice your computer slowing down, there’s a big chance that spywares and its other components have found their way in your operating system. When the Windows desktop also takes a longer time to load, its best to scan your computer for possible spyware infections.

Meanwhile, viruses are destructive form of software. They were purely designed and created for one purpose alone: to wreck havoc to your computer. They destroy whatever they come in contact to and will initiate self replication and infect as many components of the computer’s operating system or network as possible.

Nowadays, a lot of anti-virus software also provides spyware and adware scanning and removal utilities. Some programs, however, are focused on located and deleting or destroying spyware and adware programs. Whether is an anti-virus software or a anti-spyware dedicated scanner, they both search your computer and identify any spyware and virus installed on your system.

They then remove it as well as their components located in the system registry among other places in your computer. It is therefore, good to regularly update your virus or spyware scanner to ensure that your computer is protected from the thousands of spyware and viruses in the internet. Never be fooled from ads that claim that their products only contain adware.

These adware maybe spyware in disguised and are just waiting to be deployed for them to gather your information. Learn to setup firewall systems and always block pop-up blockers to minimize computer infection and ensure the security of all your computer files.

While some of the least expensive digital cameras have only automatic focus, meaning the camera does all the work on bringing your subject into the best possible focus, most SLR digitals offer three different focus modes: manual, single auto focus and continuous auto focus. All three of these will be addressed here.
With manual focus, the camera stays out of the focus equation and you, the photographer, make all the decisions regarding this. This is done by setting different buttons or actually using an attached focusing ring that rotates on the camera lens. For those who like to have complete creative control of the finished product, this is the best focus mode.
In single auto focus mode, the camera automatically focuses when you press the shutter button either all the way down to shoot a photo or half way down to lock the focus. This mode is useful when shooting static objects.
In continuous auto focus the camera continuously focuses on the objects in the photo. In this mode the camera continuously corrects the focus as the objects distance from the camera changes. This mode is useful when you shoot photos of moving objects such as a race car during a race or airplanes during an air show. You can hold the shutter button half way down and continuously move the camera to follow the object. The camera will continuously keep the object in focus.
Like any other feature automatic and manual focus modes have their pros and cons. The first step to using them to your advantage is to understand how they work and what they were designed for. The next step is to experiment shoot photos using different focus modes and different types of objects and see how the camera behaves. Once you have done that you will be ready to instinctively use the best focus mode for each photo situation.

Quick! Can you tell me how to prepare a bowl of cereals with milk? Too simple, right? You can probably give me a series of no-brainer instructions that I can perform in less than a minute. Now try telling a computer to do just that. What began as a simple task has now become complicated. It’s not just a matter of dumping a cup of cereals in a bowl and pouring milk in. With computers, it’s so much more than that. Sounds exciting? It should be. Because that’s what you’ll expect once you begin learning computer programming fundamentals.

The basics

Computer programming is a whole new world of possibilities. Believe it or not, programming actually began in the 1200s, when simple machines were designed to execute simple mechanical tasks. It has grown both as an art and as a science since then, providing us with the technologies that have made many aspects of our lives easier and faster.

Once you start learning computer programming, some of the basic stuff you’ll encounter include:

- The basic understanding of the discipline

You’ll need a good background in the field in order for you to understand how it really works. With a solid foundation built on knowing the basics of computer programming, it will be easier to comprehend its details, including procedures, steps and other instructions.

- Understanding the types of programming

Essentially, there are two basic types of programming, each of which has its own uses and set of advantages and limitations. Procedural programming, while older, is quite useful particularly because it is a much simpler way to tell a computer what to do. It is also the heart and soul of many computer languages. Basically, it’s an input-output operation, where a user or programmer inputs a set of instructions and a computer reacts to it by executing those instructions. Learning procedural programming helps new programmers understand elements such as sequence, selection and iteration.

The other type of programming is object-oriented, which is relatively newer. This type of programming treats instructions as a set of objects, something that is more convenient in many of the programs that are in use today. With object-oriented programming, you’ll learn an object’s properties, event handlers and methods.

You’ll learn both types of programming as part of a fundamental or basic course. These will help you understand how to design codes that are easy for a computer to understand and effective enough to execute. Using the cereal and milk analogy, for example, you will be able to write a code that will tell a computer how to pour the right amount of cereal into a bowl and how much milk to use, in that order. And if you’re truly good, you can even tell the computer what specific type of cereal and milk to use.

- Understanding the nature of the code

Another important basic knowledge you must learn in programming is understanding codes. While their functions are generally the same – that is, to power a computer program – codes differ in design and use depending on the language. Codes are at the heart of a computer program and will be one of the basics you will learn in programming.

- Learning problem-solving

Much of your time as a first-time computer programmer will be spent poring over problems – how to create a source code for a desired end result, how to fix a bug, how to solve a glitch, how to put things together or in sequence so they work. You’ll learn how to look at a problem, break it down to its solvable components and come up with ways to solve it.

- Thinking logically.

If you’re not a fan of mathematics and logic, you’ll be dismayed to know that many of the computer programming fundamentals you’ll be learning will require you to think in numbers, figures and sequences. However, these basics are easy to learn, provided you have the patience to follow the right steps. Once you’ve trained your mind to think like this, you’re well on your way to a great career as a computer programmer.

The technology of Bluetooth is nothing new, but in
many respects it can still seem like more of a buzz
word rather than an accepted technology. You may
see the ads for Bluetooth enabled devices, although
you still may be wondering what it is.

Capabilities
The Bluetooth definition is a wireless technology
that is a worldwide specification for a small form
factor, low cost solution that will provide link
between mobile devices and other electronic
devices.

Similiar to 802.11 b/g wireless and many cordless
telephone systems, Bluetooth operates on 2.4 GHz
radio signals. The 2.4 GHz band seems to be a bit
crowded, with interferences between the devices a
bit hard to avoid. Telephones are now being offered
at the 5.8 GHz frequency band, which will help to
remedy this.

The technical specifications of Bluetooth will
indicate a maximum transfer rate of 723 kbps with
a range of 65 – 328 feet, all depending on the
class of that particular device. The speed is a
fraction of what is offered by wireless standards,
so it’s obvious that Bluetooth doesn’t really
pose a threat to replacing your wireless network.

Applications
There are numerous products that will take advantage
of Bluetooth capabilities, such as laptops, PDAs,
headphones, and even wireless printer adapters.

A lot of laptops out there will include an onboard
Bluetooth adapter which allows the system to
connect to any Bluetooth device right out of the
box. For computers that don’t have an adaptor
built right in, there are several USB adaptors
available for Bluetooth.

For an awesome technology, Bluetooth is actually
hard to compete with. For short range wireless,
Bluetooth is easily one of the best. The standard
for Bluetooth keeps getting better and better,
making it a wireless technology that will be around
for years and years to come.

Anti-Virus software consists of computer programs that attempt to identify, thwart, and eliminate computer viruses and other malicious software (Malware). Anti-Virus software typically will use two different techniques to accomplish the following things, Examining, also known as scanning your files on the computer to look for familiar viruses that will match definitions in a virus dictionary.

The Anti-Virus software will also identify suspicious behavior from any computer program which might indicate if it has infection. Some of these analysis may also include data captures, port monitoring and other methods as well. Most of the commercial Anti-Virus software uses both of the following approaches, with an emphasis on the virus dictionary approach.

In the virus dictionary approach, when the anti-virus software looks at a file, it refers to a dictionary of known viruses that the authors of the anti-virus software have identified. If a piece of code in the file matches any virus that is identified in the dictionary, then the anti-virus software can take one of the following options.

1. Attempt to repair the file by removing the virus itself from the file.

2. Quarantine the file(such that the file remains inaccessible to other programs and it’s virus can no longer spread).

3. Delete the infected file. To achieve consistent success in the medium and long term, the virus dictionary
approach requires periodic downloads of updated virus dictionary entries.

As civically minded and technically inclined users identify new viruses “in the wild”,they can send the infected files to the authors of anti-virus software, who then include information about the viruses that are new in their dictionary.Dictionary-based Anti virus software typically examines files when the computers operating system creates, opens, closes or e-mails them.

In this way it can detect a familiar virus very quickly upon receipt.Note to that a systems administrator can typically schedule the anti virus software to examine (scan) all files that are on the computer’s hard disk on a regular basis.

Although using the approach of the dictionary can effectively contain virus outbreaks in the right circumstances, anti virus authors have tried to stay a step ahead of such software by writing ” oligomorphic,” “polymorphic” and more recently “metamorphic” viruses, which encrypt parts of themselves or otherwise modify themselves as a method of disguise,so as to not match the virus’s signature in the dictionary.

Anti virus programs come in many different types and it is important that you understand all of those types before choosing to purchase any for your home or office computer system. Research this some more before choosing which type would be most beneficial to you. Keeping your computer functioning properly is really very important because they sure do cost us all plenty of money!

Purchase an anti virus program for your computer now if you do not currently have one for your personal computer, otherwise you are going to be out a great deal of money once your computer becomes invaded by bugs!

You always have access to these passwords, however, only you are able to gain this access to the passwords. How this system works is you create labels for your passwords, and then put the actual password within the application.

After you have done so the passwords are actually decrypted into your browser, which means that plain text will never be transferred to the various servers. By doing so, this means your passwords can never be hacked and you are provided with 100% safety and security. If you have many passwords to sensitive locations, or if you just want to keep your online banking password even more protected, you will love this application.

PMA Designs knows that people in the IT skills market will be well aware that cloud computing technology is on the rise but, according to a leading security expert, it may also pose a “huge risk” for some businesses.

Hewlett-Packard’s Senior Director of Products, Application Lifecycle Management Software, Subbu Iyer, was speaking after the release of a report from the EU which endorsed cloud computing enthusiastically, highlighting its potential cost savings and the revenues associated with the technology. But Mr Iyer points out that many small firms who may be considering the technology are unlikely to have a security information team, a deficit which could expose them to significant security risks.

IT contracting may see something of a surge in demand as a result, as increasing numbers of firms seek to benefit from the cloud’s advantages. But My Iyer was at pains to highlight the “substantial risks” faced by newcomers to the technology, adding that security, availability and performance are regularly cited as the top three concerns inhibiting the wider uptake of cloud computing.

Number one on the list, Mr Iyer noted, was security. “It’s a huge concern,” he added. If companies are moving a critical business process completely onto the cloud, he continued, “the first area that chief information officers are concerned with is, ‘Is it secure?’”

Iyer believes that security concerns are playing a major role in both cloud technology and mobile computing – both of them central to the new economy. “There are a lot of applications being purpose built for mobile phones,” he noted. “How do you ensure that those are secure?”
